"I read that Italo Calvino described Fellini’s work as “forcing of the photographic image in a direction that carries it from an image of caricature toward that of the visionary”. I like that idea."

I had forgotten about Italo Calvino and Felllini until I came across your mention of them here. I remember clearly the day Italo Calvino died. I was listening to radio and they made the announcement. It was heartbreaking. I love him so much. Thank you for reminding of me these visionary men and for the quote I was unaware of.

I love your writing style and your photographic work, it has all the existential appeal that I find so important to making an authentic statement about what it is to be here in this world of wonders.

Thank you and all the best of success to you.

In all honesty, I have to say, Ron Diorio's photography is far more beautiful in every way than Edward Hopper's work. These photographics has a certain tranquility and peace that borders on bravery that is not seen in Hopper's paintings. I love this work. It's existential at the same time, it has that something special, something noble with a hint of immortality (unlike Hopper's depressed atmospherics) about it. A beautiful idea to publish this and a gift to us all. Thank you for the preview and congratulations, Don! Your technique and vision is new and beautiful.

The Soul of Things is very intended to have live music played with the film. That is why it was silent. However, logistics at Views and arranging travel accomodations for my harmonica player prevented this from happening.

Otherwise I feel the film can stand alone without music

Thanks

This is one of my very favorites of all your images, Ron.
And the issue of voyeurism is interesting. I just got an IPhone and, while I've done lots of street photography, I notice that the IPhone makes me feel a lot more sneaky and voyeuristic. With a bigger camera I make no pretense about what or who I'm shooting and have never had any pushback. Somehow the IPhone just changes MY perception of what I'm doing.

BTW, your new book is fantastic!!!
