Expressive life?

Arts Journal is hosing a week long blog-conference led in part by past NEA chariman Bill Ivey around the question “Do we need a new framework for culture?

Marian Godfery writes;

This concept responds to a universal human impulse toward curiosity and the search for meaning. It opens up a welcome space for people like me who lack the talent and/or tenacity to become professional artists, but need to be in touch with our own creative impulses and to be stimulated and elated by others’ craft or artistic mastery.

I think the term “expressive life” are the wrong words for the right concept. I think the “Arts and culture” industry suffer from being dependent on a professional class of Arts administrators who are not producers themselves and who can’t grapple with the distributed (broadcast/internet/cable/downloads) arts that don’t exist within the walls of their institution.
